What is OT?
Occupational Therapy is an allied health profession. The goal of OT is to restore individuals to their highest level of independence in self-care, work, and leisure.
OT’s are trained in the evaluation and treatment of neuromuscular, cognitive, and psychosocial components of disease process.
How can OT help chronic pain?
- Educating clients in self-management strategies.
- Training clients in adaptive techniques and equipment use.
- Training clients in exercises to restore flexibility, endurance, and strength.
- Applying hands-on techniques of myofascial release and soft tissue mobilization to Restore and reeducate proper movement patterns.
What services are available?
- Medical services: Traditional therapy services are available under a physician’s order.
- Wellness Services: For clients who do not require a medical model. These services are available under a wellness model. These services may include education, exercise, and bodywork.
- Consultation: Consultation with industry and employers is available for education in on-the-job wellness programs and ergonomic adaptations. Consultation with community groups is also available for education in wellness programs.
What diagnoses benefit from these services?
Several diagnosis can benefit from these services including low back pain, neck pain, headaches, myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, cumulative trauma injuries, carpel tunnel syndrome, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, peripherial neuropathy or any area of pain of biomechanical nature.
